I havent really seen a music video that’s impacted me this much in a while- oh my goodness she is SOOO talented. This song was literally brilliant and the video was great too. I love her style!
But listen to The Winter Soldier’s theme! It’s cold and electric and has a yearning feeling and omg it is so good. It resembles a siren going off and a factory conveyor belt line except then it’s not and it is chaotic and the ending goddamn if I’ve never seen a song get a character so right before. Somebody do meta on it because damn the six minutes of pure bucky angst is too much for me.
You want some meta? Let’s get some fucking meta on this because I’m doing this song for a dance and I’ve been listening to it 101938 times.
HERE BE SPOILERS THOU ART WARNED
Bucky now, is buried in darkness. He’s been taken and his sense of self has been stolen. And then there are those first notes and they hit just me so deep because they start high and sweet and pure and then the voice crackles and breaks and turns into a childlike scream of pain and horror.
Because Bucky is screaming, wherever he is in the Winter Soldier. He is screaming and trapped and full of despair. And then his screaming self is run over and overtaken as a motor revs up and grinds what’s left of him to dust, until the sound of darkness and blankness is taken over by the Winter Soldier.
The Winter Soldier is all machine shop din and the clang of metal against metal, of engines and motors and sinister, mindless purpose, But even as the cacophony rises, even as the music crests and the Winter Soldier rises up and takes over, before the chaos breaks down into static and silence, you can still hear Bucky screaming.
